Metrolink, not Motorlink!
Last weekend, Greater Manchester Police arrested a 32 year old man at the Oldham King Street Metrolink stop at 11:30pm on suspicion of drunk driving. A call that had come in to the control room reported that the car had been driven onto the inbound track towards Manchester City Centre. A spokesperson from Metrolink stated that the next (and last) stop from that evening into the City Centre was immediately halted at Oldham central and the remaining passengers were asked to make alternative arrangements to their journeys.
After the call had been received, the police were notified almost immediately and arrived on scene to remove the passengers from the car. At around 1am the car was removed from the tracks and whilst there was only a light amount of damage to the tracks, engineers working on overnight jobs were delayed somewhat, but worked quickly to recover lost time.
