Have you considered a city break to Manchester this Easter? We may be known as the ‘rainy city’, but we have so much on offer, and as such we’re the perfect city for a little get away. So why not take a trip over to one of the best cheap hotels in Manchester, and make the most of your Easter break.
Manchester really is a 24 Hour City, there is something going on every day no matter what time it is. There really are too many events, shows and attractions to mention, so we have mentioned just a few below.
Event: a-ha
Venue: Manchester Arena
When: Friday 25th March
‘a-ha’ is probably more widely known as the catchphrase of Norwich based digital radio super-star Alan Partridge, aka Manchester’s very own Steve Coogan. The ‘a-ha’ mentioned above however, is in fact the equally popular Norwegian pop group. A-ha formed in Oslo, Norway back in 1982 and found fame with a number of chart topping hits after moving over to London in the mid 1980’s.
The band originally split in 1994, but have enjoyed a number of reunions since 1998.
The arena is located immediately north of the city centre, just a 5 minute walk from us here at The Mitre. Manchester Arena first opened its doors back in July 1995 as the then Nynex Arena. The arena was built to improve the city’s chances of hosting the 1996 Olympic Games. Sadly, Manchester missed out but the arena has become one of Manchester’s best venues. It was however used during the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Event: Manchester Duck Race
Venue: Spinningfields
When: Friday 25th March
What do you get if you cross an army of rubber ducks and one of the most famous water ways in Manchester? That’s right, it’s the Manchester Duck Race 2016, back for its seventh consecutive year.
The event set up in aid of the kid’s charity Brainwave, begins at 2pm, and will also feature a whole host of family friendly activities, including film screenings, craft workshops, live music and a petting Zoo. Ducks cost £1 each.
Spinningfields is located in the heart of Manchester City Centre. It is named after a narrow Street just up the road on Deansgate. The expansion of the Spinningfields area continues today, with a whole host of restaurants and bars continuing to open.
Event: Easter Vigil
Venue: Manchester Cathedral
When: Saturday 26th March
Manchester Cathedral hosts its annual Easter Vigil on Saturday at 7:30pm.
The cathedral dates back to medieval times and is one of Manchester’s oldest building. It’s beautifully iconic and worth a visit.
